The Magnum Bait Station is an aeration cooler for live fishing bait. I had the opportunity to be the lead Industrial Designer for the project. Having the opportunity to work on the Magnum Bait Cooler allowed me to further develop my knowledge of blow molding and injection molding.
Project Scope & User Research
01: Durable Design
Bait coolers are designed to be used during all four seasons of the year. With this factor in mind it was important to develop a cooler to withstand all elements and use case scenarios.
02: Add Features without Adding Cost
When designing the Magnum Bait Station, I was tasked with adding features to the cooler while maintaining the same production cost of their existing coolers. The Magnum cooler is designed to be Frabill's flagship cooler.
Low Profile Aerator
The aerator is integrated into the top of the lid to create a low profile design and to withstand the use of being placed in the back of a boat or truck. By having the aerator integrated into the lid it is naturally protected by the exterior walls of the cooler.
Recessed Latches
The latches on the Magnum Bait Station are intentionally recessed behind the main body of the cooler to avoid damage and to prevent the user from accidentally opening the lid.
